Music Therapy

Music Therapy is a psychological therapy which can help people whose lives have been affected by injury, illness or disability through supporting their psychological, emotional, cognitive, physical, communicative and social needs.

Music Therapists draw upon the innate qualities of music to support people of all ages and abilities and at all stages of life.

In  Music Therapy a client has the opportunity to engage in live musical interaction with the therapist. A wide range of musical styles and instruments can be used, including the voice, and the music is often improvised. Using music in this way enables clients to create their own unique musical language in which to explore and connect with the world and express themselves. It can help develop communication skills, improve self-confidence and independence, enhance self-awareness and awareness of others, improve concentration and attention skills.

No previous musical experience is required and activities can include playing instruments, listening to music and therapeutic song-writing.

About me

Polly with violin (2).jpg

Music has been a part of my life since childhood and I have a passion for sharing music with other people. For me music is an expression of what it is to be human. Alongside my work as a music therapist in many different settings I am a performing violinist and have many years experience of teaching music to children and adults. Connecting with people through music is one of my biggest joys and I strongly believe in the transformative power of these connections.
